8c - Wir spielen Ultimate Frisbee
Wir, die Klasse 8c, nehmen gerade am bilingualen Sportunterricht bei Frau Quaß teil. Das heißt, dass unser regulärer Sportunterricht für fünf Wochen auf Englisch ist. Dabei lernen wir die amerikanische Sportart „Ultimate Frisbee“ kennen. In der Halle haben wir verschiedene Techniken kennengelernt. Zum Beispiel probierten wir den Backhand-throw und den sandwich-catch aus und übten diese in vielen kleinen Sportspielen. Anfangs hatten wir Probleme die Frisbee kontrolliert zu passen und zu werfen, jenes verbesserte sich bereits in den ersten Unterrichtsstunden, sodass wir jetzt sicher unserem Partner zupassen können. Zu Beginn haben wir Ultimate Golf gespielt, eine Variante des Minigolfs. Wir sind aber auch oft draußen und spielen eine Modifikation des Spiels, bei dem man sich fünf Pässe mit der Frisbee zuspielen muss um einen Punkt zu erzielen. Jenes ist nicht nur lustig anzuschauen, sondern macht auch noch Spaß. Ob Englisch reden im Sportunterricht komisch ist? Nein! Es fühlt sich ganz normal an und zudem lernen wir dadurch neben dem Sport auch ein bisschen mehr Englisch zu sprechen. Und wenn wir etwas nicht verstehen, dann können wir einfach bei unseren Mitschülern zuschauen und schon haben wir die Technik verstanden. Bis zu den Sommerferien werden wir gemeinsam Spielregeln entwickeln und zum Abschluss ein großes Ultimate Frisbee Turnier machen. Für viele von uns macht der Unterricht auf Englisch sehr viel Spaß, weil wir nebenbei Englisch lernen, draußen üben können und sich so Sportunterricht wie Freizeit anfühlt!
8c - We play Ultimate Frisbee
At the moment, our PE (Physical Education/ Sport) lessons are not as usual: We play the American endzone game “Ultimate Frisbee” and speak English. An endzone game is a game like Rugby, where you score by catching a ball/Frisbee in an endzone. At the beginning, it was really hard to make successful passes. Last week, we learned the backhand- throw and the sandwich-catch and tried them out in a game. Now, we can pass to our teammates without losing our Frisbee. At the beginning, we played Ultimate Golf (it is like Minigolf with the Frisbee). The cool thing is that we can also play outside. Most of the time, we play a modified version of the big game: We need to pass the Frisbee five times to our team mates to score. It looks really funny and makes a lot of fun. Some other pupil wanted to know whether it is strange to talk English in PE: No, definitely not! Actually it is quite natural and sometimes it is even easier to talk English in PE than in our normal English lessons. Frau Quaß also tries to show everything “in motion” so that we all understand it. And the best thing is that we can watch and learn from our team mates. In the next weeks, we are going to invent our own rules for the game. At the end of this sequence, we are going to play against each other in a big tournament. All in all, bilingual PE is cool, we learn new techniques and get to know a new game by talking English. Therefore, it sometimes feels like freetime - although it is school.
